What Is a Thrombosed Hemorrhoid?
Millions of people all over the world suffer from hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are painful and quite embarrassing condition in which a blood vessel located in the anus starts to swell and over time this can start to protrude. There are two main types of hemorrhoids internal and external – and the majority of people will suffer from the internal type which are much more common and much less problematic for anyone who suffers from them, many will just disappear in fact.
External hemorrhoids can be quite a problem for anyone who is suffering from them as they are not only incredibly painful they are also at risk of becoming a thrombosed hemorrhoid. These are hemorrhoids which not only develop outside of the body and hang down from the anus but they also have blood clots or ruptured veins within them. When a person is diagnosed with a thrombosed hemorrhoid it is crucial that they receive the correct medical treatment as soon as possible. Failure to do this can lead to excessive blood loss, excruciating pain and further complications.
Usually such treatment for this type of hemorrhoid is surgery, whether hemorrhoid is removed and any risk of further bleeding or clotting is eliminated. Anyone who does suffer from these type of external hemorrhoids really needs to keep a close eye on them as any change in their shape or size can be a symptom that thrombosis is beginning to occur within the hemorrhoid. There are various types of surgery for a thrombosed hemorrhoid and what type of patient will receive will depend very much upon how severe their case actually is. It is essential however that as soon as this type of hemorrhoid is diagnosed that the appropriate type of medical treatment is started immediately as a blood clot can be quite serious.
